Everything you need to know about using Leadership Mentor.
Getting Started
Type a question about any leadership or management challenge and press Enter. Leadership Mentor will search its source library and give you an answer with numbered citations.
Click any citation badge to see the original source material. Your conversations are saved automatically and appear in the sidebar.
Response Modes
You can change how Leadership Mentor responds by clicking the mode button next to the input field. There are three modes:
- Concise — Quick, direct answer in 2-4 paragraphs. Best for simple questions where you want a fast answer.
- Detailed — Thorough answer with frameworks, conversation scripts, and action plans. Best for learning a topic or preparing for a situation.
- Coaching — Mentoring conversation that asks probing questions before giving advice. Best for working through a challenge or making a decision.
Memories
Memories are personal notes about you — your role, team size, goals, and challenges — that persist across sessions. When enabled, Leadership Mentor uses these to personalize advice to your specific situation.
To set up memories, go to Settings and toggle "Personalized memory" on. Then write notes in the text area. For example: "VP Engineering at a 50-person startup. Managing 3 team leads. Preparing for Series B."
Situations
Situations are ongoing challenges that Leadership Mentor detects from your conversations — things like "Scaling team from 12 to 25" or "Preparing to give critical feedback to a senior engineer."
Active situations appear on the welcome page and can be filtered in the sidebar using the Situations button. When a situation is resolved, click the checkmark on the situation card or use the three-dot menu and select "Mark resolved." This converts the chat back into a normal conversation.
Conversations & Sidebar
All conversations are saved automatically in the sidebar, grouped by time.
- Star — conversations to pin them to the top
- Projects — organize conversations into folders. Drag and drop to move them.
- Rename — use the three-dot menu on any conversation
- Search — press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K
- Delete — from the three-dot menu, or delete all from Settings
Attachments
You can attach files to your messages by clicking the paperclip icon next to the input field. Supported file types:
- Text files: .txt, .md, .csv
- Images: .png, .jpg, .gif, .webp
Maximum file size is 1 MB per file.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Press ? at any time to see the full list of keyboard shortcuts.
Incognito Mode
Click the ghost icon in the top-right corner to start a temporary chat. Incognito conversations are not saved and your memory notes are not used. This is useful for quick questions you don't need to keep.
Tips for Better Questions
- Be specific about your situation. "I manage a team of 8 engineers and need to address underperformance" gets better advice than "How do I manage people?"
- Mention the outcome you want. "I need a script for giving feedback" or "Help me prepare for a 1:1 with my skip-level."
- Ask follow-up questions. The assistant remembers the full context of your conversation.
- Try coaching mode when you're working through a decision — it asks probing questions to help you think clearly.
